The purpose of Planning, Zoning and Building Inspections is to promote the public health, safety, order, prosperity and general welfare for Bedford County. Jurisdiction of the Zoning Office does not include the incorporated municipalities of Bell Buckle, Normandy, Wartrace and Shelbyville.

Jurisdiction of the Building Inspections Office does not include the incorporated municipalities of Wartrace and Shelbyville.

  • Subdivision Regulations were adopted November 24, 1997.
  • Zoning Resolutions were adopted January 14, 1998.
  • 2003 International and Residential Building Codes were adopted February 12, 2006.
  • Bedford County School Facilities Privilege Tax was adopted January 1, 2007.
Before the commencing of excavation for or the construction of any building or other structure, including accessory structures; before commencing of moving, altering or expanding any structure, including accessory structures; you must have the proper permits.
