The Bedford county zoning resolution and subdivision regulations were pasted in to law on the 13th day of January 1998.

The Bedford County zoning office is the contact point for the Bedford county planning commission and the Bedford County zoning board of appeals. All divisions of property 5 Acres or less are required to be submitted to this office for approval by the planning commission. All persons wishing to open businesses or home occupations in the rural areas must submit application thru this office before doing so. A zoning permit must be obtained before the placement or alteration to any structure. Normal office hours are from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. 5 days a week. Office location is in the basement of U.S. bank on the north side of the square, down town Shelbyville.

Kay Demonbren relocated to Bedford County in 2003, after living in Arkansas, Georgia, Germany, Louisiana, Texas and New York. She has worked in the Zoning Office since 2003 and currently resides in Shelbyville with her husband, 2 children, and 2 cats.
