Eugene Ray.The office of County Mayor is known as the highest elected official of the county.  In Bedford County the County Mayor is the Chief Financial Official of the county.  The term of office is for four years.

The County mayor of Bedford County serves as Chairman of the Law Enforcement Committee and as a non voting member of the Budget and Finance Committee.

Current County Mayor Eugene Ray is a lifetime resident of Bedford County. He serves as the Chief Local Elected Official of the Workforce Investment Board Area 6, as member of the South Central Development District Board, and a member of the Shelbyville Bedford County Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, and a member of the Economic Development and Tourism Board of Directors, and a member of the Shelbyville Bedford County Senior Citizens Board of Directors, and a member of the Bedford County Health Board, and a member of the local Railroad Authority Board.  He is also an active member of Bright Temple Church of God in Christ, there he serves as the administrative assistant and the financial director.

Mayor Eugene Ray believes that it is important for all local governments to work cooperatively to achieve the level of services that the citizens of Bedford County expect and deserve to receive.  His philosophy is to allow the talented people that hold elected offices or appointed positions to perform their duties without undue interference from the executive’s office. He is a graduate of Bedford County Training school, and attended Motlow State Community College.

Troy Thompson and Sherry Armstrong are valued employees in the Bedford County Mayor’s office.  Roger Brothers  are employed when needed as part time staff.  The office is located in the Bedford County Courthouse on the main floor.
